Sri Lanka face Afghanistan with just one change from the 16-man squad they fielded for the T20I series against Zimbabwe last month. Dushmant Chamira is injured in the first match of the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan. He has been replaced by Binura Fernando.
Binura last wore Sri Lanka’s jersey in the T20 World Cup against Australia in October 2022. But he was forced to leave the field after only five balls with a hamstring injury. Since then he regained fitness with relentless efforts and bowled eye-catchingly in the Lankan Premier League and Abu Dhabi T-Ten.
Dilshan Madushanka, Nuan Thushara and Mathisha Pathirana will be in Sri Lanka’s seam bowling attack along with left-arm fast bowler Binura. Wanindu Hasaranga will lead the spin bowling. He will be backed up by Mahish Takshana and Akila Dhananjaya.
The three-match T20 series will begin on February 17. The next two matches are on February 19 and 21. All matches will be played in Dambulla.
Sri Lanka has already won the three-match ODI series. Wednesday will be the last match of the series.
