US President Joe Biden has recently described his country as “an essential nation” without whose participation it is difficult to manage international issues.
Speaking to donors at a fundraiser in New York on Wednesday, the president said that his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, “is hot on his heels.”
«And what are we doing? “Take a step back?” Biden asked, after expressing concern that Ukraine’s allies, including Washington, were ceasing to support the country financially at a critical time.
«We are an essential nation. We really are,” said the current tenant of the White House. “If the US turns away from events, what will happen?” he declared. “What will happen then in the Middle East?” Biden continued. «The Taiwan Strait? What will happen in Asia? What will happen to Ukraine? », he insisted.
His words came hours after the US Senate blocked a bipartisan bill covering border measures and aid to Israel and Ukraine. The proposed financial package, worth $118 billion, was rejected by most Republicans, amid opposition from former President Donald Trump.
As a result, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer plans to force a procedural vote on a separate emergency aid package for Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan, without the border security provisions. With RT
