Beach container library of Gwadar which is a favorite place of youth

This red box-shaped container on the coast of Gwadar city of Balochistan, which is not remembered with a good name in the country’s politics, but here it has a positive and unique place.

Approaching this box-shaped concourse, every new tourist is amazed as it is a library.

This container by the sea came to be known as ‘Beach Container Library’ when a few local youths turned it into a library by keeping books in a quiet place by the sea instead of keeping it empty and blocking the road.

Now people who come for sightseeing do not leave Gwadar without seeing it.

Speaking to Independent Urdu, Abdul Aziz Baloch, volunteer librarian of Gwadar Beach Container Library, said, “This container came as a donation from the Rotary Club four years ago on 19 December 2019 with around ten thousand books which is were distributed in various educational institutions of the district.

“Later we thought, instead of keeping the container empty, why not put it on the beach and make a library inside it?”

“The efforts of our friends finally paid off and we transformed it into a library, and soon local students started benefiting from it.”

According to Aziz, ‘Five to six students come to study in this library on a daily basis, and it gets more crowded when there are exams for educational institutes in the city. University students often come here for preparatory courses.

Aziz Baloch says that considering the weather, we open it at four in the evening because it is a container and it gets hot during the day. So it is difficult to sit and study in it during the day. This library is open from 4 pm to 9 pm.

According to him, at present this library has about 800 books on different topics, including books on literature, science, history and other social topics. There is also gaming here in the evening, especially chess lovers sit here and play their favorite game.’

Gwadar University students Khalid Taj and Shahzar Muhammad, who come here daily to prepare for exams, say, ‘We chose this container library for preparation and study because of the calm environment.

‘We enjoy the unique pleasure of reading Paulo Coelho’s novels and other fictions in addition to the course, enjoying the sound of the ocean waves on the beach.’
