Starting from the last months of last year, cases of hepatitis A virus infection were registered in separate areas of Azerbaijan. In January 2024, the Republican Hygiene and Epidemiology Center of the Ministry of Health received information about a number of cases of infection with the diagnosis of “Hepatitis A” in the Surakhani district of Baku.

A doctor-therapist on the issue Subhan Hajiyev to Publika.az made a statement.

He said that the disease known in medicine as “hepatitis A” and in other people as jaundice is contagious:

“Specific symptoms during this disease are very similar to other disease infections. The main difference is the yellowing of the eyes and skin due to the increase of bilirubin in the blood. Therefore, people experience weakness, yellowness, fatigue, sweating, severe vomiting and diarrhea. Against this background, a serious electrolyte disturbance occurs. Many electrolytes in the body: sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium are washed away, causing serious complications. Unfortunately, there is no specific treatment for hepatitis A. It is only possible to prevent complications. In another way, the treatment of other complications that occurred during the aggravation period is carried out.

This treatment is also effective in most cases. “Hepatitis A” is a serious threat to life in children and adults with chronic disease, especially in people with diabetes, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal tract, liver failure and injuries. The cause of infection of the disease is mainly caused by the complete deterioration of sanitary and hygienic conditions and dirty water.

Therefore, we should pay attention to the food we eat, washing fruits and vegetables well and preparing them properly. Such cases lead to the increase of the “hepatitis A” virus and its infectiousness to the epidemic level. “The best way to protect against hepatitis A virus is vaccination.”
