On Care Day: Projection shows staff shortages in care and support

Vienna (OTS) This year’s Nursing Day is on May 12th. Appropriately, the day of action falls on Mother’s Day. Care work, whether paid or unpaid, is undervalued in our society. By 2050, there will be a need for almost 200,000 nursing staff. Under these conditions it is impossible to ensure quality care.

Although the problematic working conditions and demographic challenges have long been known, there is still a lack of political will to turn things around towards a sustainable care policy. Little or nothing of the reform packages of the last few years has reached those affected. The working group for health and social care professions, which is made up of ÖGB and the unions GPA, GÖD, vida and younion, would like to clear up this situation and is therefore inviting you to the media campaign “All eyes on care”:

Friday, May 10th, from 8 p.m. in front of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Stubenring 1, 1010 Vienna

Accompanied by a projection that visualizes the staff shortage in care and support.

Available for interviews and inquiries:

Martina Lackner, ÖGB nursing expert

Claudia Neumayer-Stickler, head of the health policy department at the ÖGB

Angelika Hlawaty, Chairwoman of the Youth at Works Vienna Works Council (GPA)

Gerald Mjka, Works Council Chairman Hospital Göttlicher Heiland GmbH (vida)

Reinhard Waldhör, chairman of the GÖD health union

Katarzyna Resch, speaker at the younion health association
