El Salvador continues to add days with zero homicides in the current year 2024, specifically at the beginning of the month of May, as detailed in the records of the National Civil Police (PNC) published in the early hours of this Monday.
Official data from the police corporation indicate that Sunday, May 5, ended with zero homicides in Salvadoran territory, becoming the second day with this figure out of five that have occurred this month.
These two days recorded at the beginning of May 2024 are added to the 19 days that ended last April and the 21 that were recorded in March of this year. This is also in addition to the 48 days without homicides that occurred in the months of January and February.
This leaves a total of 90 days with zero homicides recorded in El Salvador Salvador so far this year 2024, which maintains the trend established in 2022 and 2023, when El Salvador began to record a historic decrease in homicidal violence.
These records have been possible thanks to the implementation of the Territorial Control Plan, a strategy that began in 2019, the year that Nayib Bukele’s presidential term began in El Salvador and that has allowed a frontal combat against crime and gangs.
