Cairo – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi confirmed that the situation in the Gaza Strip “does not tolerate” postponing a ceasefire.

This came during his meeting with a delegation from the Foreign Affairs Committee of the British House of Commons (Parliament) in Cairo on Wednesday evening, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.

Al-Sisi met with the delegation headed by MP Alicia Cairns, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and in the presence of Gareth Bailey, the British Ambassador to Cairo, according to the same source.

The meeting discussed “the regional situation, especially in the Gaza Strip.”

In this regard, the Egyptian President stressed that “the humanitarian situation in Gaza cannot tolerate further postponement of reaching decisive ceasefire solutions.”

Since Sunday, negotiations have been taking place in Cairo with the participation of Egypt, the United States, Qatar, and Hamas, according to what was reported by the private Cairo News Channel, without mentioning the reason for Israel’s non-participation.

A truce previously prevailed between Hamas and Israel for a week from November 24 to December 1, 2023, during which a ceasefire took place, a prisoner exchange took place, and very limited humanitarian aid was brought into Gaza, with Qatari-Egyptian-American mediation.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, leaving tens of thousands of victims, most of them children and women, according to Palestinian and UN data, which led to Israel appearing before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing “genocide.” “.
