The Libyan government-designate called on Parliament, in a statement issued today, Friday, to remove the head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Abdullah Batili, “from the Libyan scene permanently” and to choose a successor to him, after he said yesterday that the active parties in the country do not appear to be ready to settle the remaining differences to begin with. To hold elections.

“Reconsidering the work of the mission”

The statement also called for the necessity of reconsidering the work of the support mission in Libya, its current head, and the rest of its members.

The government appointed by Parliament said in its statement that it followed the periodic briefing submitted by Batelli to the Security Council regarding political, security and economic developments on the political scene, and confirms that the briefing was “marred by many fallacies and was on the right side in most matters.”

“He warned us repeatedly”

She accused Batelli of bias, saying, “We have previously warned repeatedly about the actions taken by the head of the support mission in Libya that do not ultimately lead to solving the problem in Libya, as it has been proven that he is clearly biased toward one party at the expense of the other, and is not fulfilling the role for which he was assigned, which is equality between the parties.” all of which”.

In his speech before the Security Council, Batelli said that the parties in Libya “continue to set conditions before participating in the dialogue, in a way that maintains the status quo.”

He added, “So far, no party in Libya has moved decisively from its initial position, and it seems that the current situation suits them,” calling on “all institutional actors in Libya to participate in the dialogue without conditions.”

Batelli had invited the main parties in Libya to participate in a meeting aimed at reaching a political settlement on the controversial issues related to the implementation of the electoral process, and to identify the outstanding issues that must be resolved to enable the Election Commission to begin implementing the election laws issued by the House of Representatives.

“The most extreme of the five-way dialogue.”

The government appointed by Parliament explained its motives behind the demand for his removal, saying that he excluded it from the five-year dialogue to which it was called months ago, “despite being the legitimate government appointed by the Libyan House of Representatives after the end of the mandate of the National Unity Government. This is what called on the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives and the General Command of the Libyan Army to reject… Participation in any dialogue does not respect this legitimacy and does not recognize the outcomes of the House of Representatives, the only legitimate and legislative authority elected by all the Libyan people.”

She added that she believes that Batelli “derives his information, on which he based his briefing, from the outgoing government of national unity, and we see this clearly in what he mentioned, deliberately avoiding the truth, that the Libyan government, at the beginning of this month of February, closed 11 branches of the High Electoral Commission, and that it is not cooperating with it in preparations.” for the electoral process.”

“Keep him away forever.”

Addressing the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and members of the Security Council, she said, “The Libyan people have begun to doubt the capabilities of the Security Council to choose who will best represent them in Libya. The matter requires you to remove Mr. Abdullah Batelli from the Libyan scene once and for all and choose a suitable successor for him whose first concern will be.” Solving the political impasse, not his personal interests or clinging to his own opinions.”
