The second phase of the Aswan Cinema Program was launched within the framework of the workshops of the eighth session of the Aswan International Women’s Film Festival, after the participants passed the two phases and selected the owners of the projects that will be implemented within the program.
From the Kingdom of Bahrain, director Maryam Abdel Ghaffar was among the participants in the Aswan Cinema Program from the Kingdom of Bahrain. Accordingly, she will receive support from the festival supported by the European Union to present her next cinematic work. Maryam Abdel Ghaffar is currently filming the film in Aswan, in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Director Sayed Ali, Director of the Workshops Program, said: “Receiving applications from participants in the program began last October and the selection period extended until the end of December. Working sessions with project makers began on the Zoom platform at the beginning of January to develop projects and discuss and develop the submitted ideas. The workshops received approximately 280 ideas.” In the end, 14 projects were selected, and 8 of them entered into implementation at this stage. It is expected that film projects that have reached the production stage will be prepared and implemented within the program.
“Sayed” added: This year, we were keen to form a team working for the program and implement projects in Aswan from participants in previous years who have the ability to manage and implement projects, especially since the most important goals of the Aswan Workshops Program are to develop and build the capabilities of participants and enable female and male filmmakers in South Upper Egypt to Implementing their projects.
The Aswan Workshops Program team is racing against time to complete the preparation phase at the end of this week, with the project filming phase beginning before the start of the holy month of Ramadan, and after the rest of the technical team members join the main work team in Aswan.
The Aswan Cinema Project and the Aswan Workshops Program are being held as part of the festival’s activities, with support from the European Union, the Drosos Foundation, the ACT Foundation, Aswan Governorate, the National Cinema Center, and Red Star.
