Palestinian teacher Muhammad Hussein said he incorporates examples from the war in Gaza into his efforts to simplify physics lessons for his students, reminding them that there are people out there who are hurting.

He added: “I did not change the standards of the lesson, but instead of the projectile being a ball, it was a missile shell… and this thing always makes the students remember that there is a war in Gaza.”

The 34-year-old has a background in drawing, having previously been a graffiti artist in the Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp, and uses his skills to create visual models of physics concepts using familiar symbols and characters that students see in the news.

Hussein said: “In the end, it is a humanitarian issue before it is a Palestinian issue or an ordinary issue, so we had to remind all these students that there is something called Palestine.”

He added, explaining: “Anything that can make a noise, I try to drop it immediately so that it remains a memory to remind these students that there is pain in a world.”

One of his students, Sidra Qasibati, said: “It is considered a method so that the idea advances to me more and remains in my mind. If the drawing is present in front of me, I still remember the idea.”

She added: “A lot of students were encouraged, and now we were talking about the national unity of Palestine, and we kept remembering that it is Gaza and we are with it, so this is very sweet.”

For his part, Abi Al-Khatib, director of the institute where Hussein gives his lessons in Damascus, said: “An individual initiative from him (the teacher) was nice, and he follows the method of linking the Palestinian issue with the barbaric aggression and unfortunate aggression that is taking place from the Zionist occupation of our Arab land in occupied Palestine, Gaza.” .

He continued: “This content is being used to deliver information to our students at the institute. We have always learned from our childhood and from history books and our curricula that the Palestinian issue is our first issue and the compass is Jerusalem, the capital of Arab Palestine. We have supported this issue and supported this initiative.”

The latest war in Gaza was sparked when fighters from Hamas, which runs the Strip, attacked Israel on October 7, leading, according to Israel, to the deaths of 1,200 people and the taking of 253 hostages.

In response, Israel launched a military attack on Gaza, which Palestinian health authorities said killed nearly 30,000.
