The Ministry of Works stated in its response to the question submitted by MP Lulwah Ali Al-Rumaihi about the Ministry’s plans to expand Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Street, that “the Ministry has a plan to develop the aforementioned street.”
She added, “The Ministry has urgent solutions projects to ease traffic congestion (the intersection of Sheikh Jaber Al-Sabah Street with Street 1 – Sitra, and another strategic project from the intersection of Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Street, with Sheikh Isa bin Salman Street in the Umm Al-Hasam area, until the intersection with the Nuwaidrat area, to improve the network.” roads in the aforementioned area.”
As for the project classified as urgent solutions, the Ministry explained, “A number of improvement packages have been initiated to reduce traffic congestion at some intersections, including the intersection of Sheikh Jaber Al-Sabah Street with Street 1 – Sitra.”
She said, “The project works include providing an additional left-turn lane from Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Street towards Street No. (1), and this will be accompanied by an increase in the length of the storage lane and separation of left-turn traffic from traffic on the main street on Fasla Island, with the aim of organizing traffic and increasing traffic.” The capacity of the aforementioned street.
The Ministry of Works added, “Note that the project has been awarded by the Tenders and Auctions Board, and the procedures are being completed to begin the project implementation work, and it is hoped that the implementation work will begin in the year 2024, noting that the time period for implementing the project work is approximately 4 months.”
She said, “The Ministry also has a vision for a strategic project for Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Street, which will contribute to alleviating traffic congestion in the area and reducing travel time. It will be implemented based on priorities, and the project will be announced after the final designs are completed.”
