“Plagiarism hunter” Stefan Weber accuses the manager of plagiarizing his thesis, which was approved at the University of Linz in 2002

Salzburg (OTS) 86 pages of purely literary work with the title “Corporate culture as a higher-order competitive advantage” – this is the diploma thesis of Peter McDonald, an ex-ÖVP politician and current manager at Johnson & Johnson Medical, accepted at the University of Linz in 2002.

“Mr. McDonald did not demonstrate a culture of a higher order when writing his diploma thesis, otherwise he would not have taken over an entire chapter verbatim and unquote from management consultant Barbara Heitger from 1994,” says plagiarism expert Stefan Weber, who checked the work together with detective Bernhard Maier has.

Occasional plagiarism can also be found interspersed throughout the running text. And McDonald quotes the content over 40 times, but uses wording almost verbatim. “The original text portion of the diploma thesis is completely called into question by this approach,” says Weber, who announces a detailed report. His first findings can be read in his “Blog for Scientific Honesty”.

“Like so many diploma theses, this one shows again: We have a plagiarism problem, and we have an overarching quality problem in many papers. They would be worthless even if there had been no plagiarism,” says Weber.
