Cairo – Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, confirmed yesterday, Sunday, that stopping the war in Sudan and preserving its territorial integrity are among the most important priorities of the League of Arab States.

Yesterday, Aboul Gheit received former Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok and the delegation of the Sudanese Democratic Forces Coordination (Taqaddum) at the General Secretariat headquarters in Cairo.

During the meeting, Aboul Gheit stressed the priorities of the Arab League in the Sudanese file, which are the need to stop the war and the importance of preserving the territorial integrity of the Sudanese state, stressing the Arab League’s full readiness to provide any required assistance to the Sudanese parties that would bring together the Sudanese factions to resolve the crisis.

Aboul Gheit stressed the importance of accompanying the Sudanese state in any initiative that would reach a solution.

The spokesman for the Secretary-General, Counselor Jamal Rushdi, stated that Aboul Gheit listened to a comprehensive presentation made by Dr. Hamdok on the movements and coordination work to try to quickly cease fire and reach a political process through an inclusive Sudanese dialogue that includes all parties to save the Sudanese state, spare the blood of the Sudanese people, and preserve the state and its gains. Nationalism.

Rushdi added that Hamdok thanked the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States for the initiative he took through the call he made on the 5th of this month to the Sudanese parties to establish a truce during the holy month of Ramadan, hoping that the two parties would build on it to reach a political solution to the crisis.

Violent and widespread clashes have continued between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in various areas of Sudan since last April 15, as both parties are trying to control vital headquarters, including the Republican Palace, the headquarters of the General Command of the Armed Forces, the Rapid Support Forces Command, and a number of military and civilian airports.

Arab, African and international parties mediated a ceasefire, but these mediations did not succeed in reaching a permanent ceasefire.
