A hearing-impaired woman named Mamata Begum (40) was killed by a train while collecting dry leaves for cooking at Patgram in Lalmonirhat.
The accident took place on Wednesday (April 24) in Harisva area of Dhabalsuti village of Patgram upazila.
The deceased Mamata Begum is the wife of the deceased Badir Uddin of Harisva area of ward number 5 of that union.
It has been found that Mamata Begum went to collect dry leaves beside the railway line in the afternoon. Meanwhile, the Parvatipur-bound Burimari commuter train leaving Burimari hit him. Mamata died on the spot due to severe head injuries.
Earlier, on April 20, a railway employee named Abdur Razzak was killed in Ufarmara area of Burimari Union after being hit by the same train. Within four days, one person died again.
Mostafizur Rahman Liton, a member of Ward No. 5 of Patgram Union Parishad, told Jago News, “Although the deceased Mamata Begum walked normally, she was actually hearing impaired. The speech was not clear. This helpless woman used to collect dry leaves and chalk as cooking fuel. He was killed by a train while collecting chalk on the railway line.’
Lalmonirhat Railway (GRP) Police Inspector (OC) Ferdous Ali told Jago News, ‘I went to the spot. Talked with locals there. Necessary action will be taken.’
