The UK’s ruling Conservative Party lawmaker Lee Anderson has been sacked for commenting that London Mayor Sadiq Khan is controlled by Islamists. On Sunday (February 25), the British media BBC reported the news.

He was sacked from the team after he refused to apologize for his comments directed at Sadiq Khan. However, despite being dismissed from the party, he sat in parliament as an independent MP. He was fired on Saturday local time.

After the sacking, the former deputy chairman of the Tory party said his comments had put the chief whip and the Prime Minister in a difficult position.

London’s first Muslim mayor, Sadiq Khan, is a member of the opposition Labor Party. He has often come under fire for his handling of regular pro-Palestinian protests and policing in the capital. Hundreds of Palestinians protested outside the parliament on Wednesday as well.

Criticizing Sadiq Khan in such a situation, Lee Anderson told GB News on Friday, “I don’t believe Islamists have taken control of our country.” But what I believe is that they got control of Sadiq Khan. They got control of London. Khan actually handed over our capital city to his Islamist allies.

Anderson came under heavy criticism immediately after these comments. In response to this, Sadiq Khan said on Saturday, Anderson’s comments are tantamount to adding fuel to the fire of Muslim hatred. Khan also criticized the deafening silence of the Cabinet and the Prime Minister over his comments.

Hours after Sadiq Khan’s criticism, a spokesman for Tory chief whip Simon Hart said: Lee Anderson has been sacked as party whip for refusing to apologize for yesterday’s comments.
