Teacher McKenna Kindred, 25, apologized to her victim and said she was deeply ashamed after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a minor and communicating with him for immoral purposes.
McKenna Kindred, a former Washington school teacher, was sentenced to two years probation, fined $700 and required to be on the sex offender registry for the next ten years.
The relationship between the 25-year-old teacher and the underage student began in June 2022 after the victim found her Instagram account. In November of that year and while her husband was away on a hunting trip, the student went to the 25-year-old’s house where they had sex.
“I am really sorry”
“I am truly sorry for my actions. I know this past year has been extremely stressful for everyone involved. As a result of my actions I have lost my career, my precious friendships, my freedoms and I have let down countless people who trusted me.
My mental health has also been seriously affected by the event. I feel deeply ashamed for the pain I caused,” said 25-year-old McKenna Kindred.
The minor’s mother spoke of abuse of power by the teacher.
It was last year that McKenna Kindred resigned from her position at the Spokane Valley school. Her resignation came after the victim’s classmates informed school officials that he and his teacher were communicating inappropriately through social media.
The teacher and the minor student initially denied having a sexual relationship. The messages recovered from their devices did not contain inappropriate photos, while some of them contained references to masturbation.
