According to the new chief selector, the 15-man squad includes three spinners Taijul, Sheikh Mehdi and Rishad Hossain besides Alis Islam. So the selectors do not think it is logical to take an extra spinner. That’s why Zaker Ali Anik has been taken as a keeper-cum-middle-order instead of a spinner.
Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu said, ‘There are more top order batsmen in the team, especially openers. In the middle order, there is no such person except Mahmudullah Riyad, the heart of Tawheed in that sense.’
‘Liton Das, Naeem Sheikh, Enamul Haque Vijay and Nazmul Hossain Shantar at least 3 opened regularly. Hriday has also been played at number three in the BPL. Hriday batted at number three position for Comilla Victorians from the middle stages to the finals. The middle order is Mahmudullah Riyad and Soumya Sarkar. Meanwhile, only the head coach can tell where Soumya will be played.
So Lipa thinks, there is a little deficiency in the middle order. They have recruited Zaker Ali Anik to fill this gap.
The chief selector added that he and the other selectors have taken a good look at Zaker Ali Anik in the BPL. Although unable to play a very big and devastating innings, he feels that Zaker Ali Onik can be a good option in the middle order.
