Results of the 2024 player survey are in

Vienna (OTS) Finishing in second place behind Benjamin Nissner in the previous season, the KAC crack Lukas Haudum was able to win the election as the best player in the ICEHL last season with a record result of 24%.

Who voted? Over 150 ICEHL players took part in the survey of the UNION ice hockey players, a specialist group of younion _ The Daseinsunion, and almost one in four voted for the Linz team striker.

Team boss Roger Bader is extremely pleased that a local crack has been chosen from “his” national team squad again this year: “This confirms the Austrian path that we as ÖEHV are trying to implement. The clubs should give more and more Austrian players the chance to gain a foothold in the league.”

This year, for the first time, there was a separate trophy for the award, which was presented as part of the national team training camp in Vienna: “Of course I am very pleased that so many teammates and opponents voted for me. “It shows that I must have done something right and I also see it as a sign of respect,” said Haudum, enthusiastic about the clear vote.

“I also hope that the number of members in our UNION will continue to increase, because the more members, the stronger a union becomes and can therefore better combat problems and create change,” says the 26-year-old center forward, addressing the problem that many Clubs do not take the opinions of the players, which are represented by the UNION ice hockey players, seriously enough.

Renewed demand for minimum salary

Because the professionals also voted on many other topics. For example, about the question of salaries. As is usual in almost all industries in Austria, there are still no minimum salaries in ice hockey. This means that many players often have to make do with a few hundred euros a month. Unfortunately, the clear demands of the players in 2021 were ignored by the league and the clubs. And unsurprisingly, there was also a clear vote (95%) for a minimum salary this year. The average determined by the players is a manageable €16,000 for one season.

“It remains to be hoped that the clubs will take these suggestions from their employees to heart and that there will finally be decent pay for the younger Austrian cracks,” says chairman Alexander Tomanek, critical of the employers’ side.

On other topics, too, the players’ suggestions, which were submitted to the league by the players’ representatives in recent months, were not even answered. The players are critical of the current playoff mode. Further details as well as the results and details of the survey can be found below
