The licensed senator, who had a meeting with women in the central State of Mexico, referred to the statements of the ruling party Claudia Sheinbaum, who during the first presidential debate on Sunday assured that she did not have assets, since the apartment in who lives is rented.

“(Sheinbaum) complained to me that I live in my own house and that she lives in a rented apartment. If at 60 you have not been able to make an asset, you are very cool, with all due respect,” said Gálvez, who also spoke of how in his government he wants all women to be independent and “have their own assets.”

After his statements, hundreds of people on social networks criticized him for expressing himself in this way, arguing that in Mexico there are people who, despite their efforts, cannot gather enough resources to create their own assets and, therefore, They see the need to rent.

“You seem not to understand the reality of many older adults who, due to various circumstances, were not able to build an estate. His statement not only points to Claudia, but to the entire people of Mexico, what a shame,” said a user identified as Fidel PJ on X.

“You can’t be more classist @XochitlGalvez, not everyone has the salaries that you have enjoyed. There are tens of thousands of Mexican men and women who work very hard and are not ‘good guys,'” said another person identified as Samuel.

Last Sunday, during the first presidential debate, Sheinbaum accused Gálvez of living in a house that, according to her, is owned by a group of corrupt politicians known as the ‘real estate cartel’, accused of profiting from construction permits in Mexico City. .

“I live in an apartment where I pay rent, she lives in a real estate cartel apartment,” Sheinbaum said.

Given the controversy, in another event this Thursday, the candidate of the coalition made up of the National Action Parties (PAN), Institutional Revolutionary Parties (PRI) and the Democratic Revolution (PRD), tried to qualify her comment and specified that it was directed at Sheinbaum.

“I want to take this opportunity to clarify a statement that I am too cool for at 60 years old (to not have assets), I was referring to Mrs. (Claudia) Sheinbaum,” he said.

He recalled that, among other public positions, the official Sheinbaum was head of Government of Mexico City from 2018 to 2023.
