Women, 55% of people affiliated with the IMSS as Domestic Workers

People have the right to five insurance policies under the IMSS Law.

55% percent of the 3,464 people who registered last year as Domestic Workers in the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) of Coahuila are women.

Jorge Alberto Ocampo Hidalgo, head of the Affiliation Validity Supervision department, attached to the Affiliation and Collection Services Headquarters, recalled that since 2019 the affiliation modality for domestic workers was implemented as a pilot program. It was through reforms to the Social Security Law (LSS) that incorporation into said scheme on a mandatory basis is possible.

Although since its implementation there has been an increase in the registration of this sector, Social Security maintains the information related to the affiliation of workers under this scheme, which seeks to guarantee access to social security for this vulnerable sector of the population. in order to provide equal conditions with the rest of the economically active population.

Ocampo Hidalgo described that employers, individually, are obliged to register Domestic Workers from the beginning of the employment relationship (now also the housing fund), which can be done from the portal www.imss.gob. mx or, go to the affiliation windows of the IMSS subdelegations located in Piedras Negras, Ciudad Acuña, Sabinas, Monclova, Torreón and Saltillo, to receive personalized information about this scheme.

The official announced that during 2023, the total number of workers affiliated with the IMSS Coahuila was 862,819, a figure of which registered Domestic Workers only represented 0.40 percent, hence he reiterated the call to affiliate those who have people in their homes who do domestic work, since this dignifies and recognizes their work, respecting their labor rights and providing decent working conditions.
