Doha, December 5, 2022 (LANA) – The Croatia national team succeeded in qualifying for the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup, after overcoming the obstacle of its Japanese counterpart on penalties.
The Japanese national team faced its Croatian counterpart on Monday evening, on the floor of Al Janoub Stadium, in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup.
The match was dominated by a goalless draw until one minute before the end of the first half, when Daisen Maeda scored the goal to put Japan ahead.
At the beginning of the second half, the Croatia national team succeeded in quickly adjusting the score, through its player Ivan Perisic in the 55th minute of the match.
Over the remaining 35 minutes, the two teams exchanged a series of attacks, but none of them entered the net, so regular time ended in a positive 1-1 draw, moving to extra time.
The matter was repeated in extra time of the match, as Japan and Croatia exchanged attacks without scoring, moving to penalty kicks.
The penalty shootout witnessed a state of excitement, as the Japanese team missed the first two kicks, and the Croatia team missed the third kick, but they were able to win in the end.
Thus, the Croatia national team qualifies for the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup, and will meet the winner of the match between Brazil and South Korea next Friday. (And)
