In Caen, the Futsal Red Devils lost 6-4 to home country France on Sunday evening in front of no fewer than 3,200 spectators.
Perhaps there was more in it for the courageous Belgians, who started flying and led 0-2, 1-3 and 2-4. Two goals conceded shortly before and after half-time brought France level. Ultimately, coach Bachar’s boys ran into two counters. Jersey player Dries Vrancken was in goal and was good for two pre-assists before the break against the French, who will be allowed to go to the World Cup in Uzbekistan later this year.
The friendly three-nation tournament was certainly no slouch for the Futsal Red Devils, who deservedly beat the Netherlands on Saturday – with Maaslander Bram Meyers in goal – with the same 6-4 score. The Belgians deservedly took the lead in the Derby of the Low Countries via 3-0 and 4-4. The Dutch team will soon play World Cup barrages against Finland. Thibeau Dochez and Benneth Vaelen took their place in the stands with minor ailments. (jotr)
