What was left of the conversation between Antony Blinken and Edmundo González

The secretary of States of the United States, Antony Blinken, held a call this Friday with the Venezuelan candidate for the presidential elections, Edmundo González Urrutia, and the opposition leader María Corina Machado.

In the conversation, Blinken congratulated Urrutia for having “received the majority of the votes” in the elections of July 28 and expressed concern for the “security and well-being” of both himself and Machado, according to a statement.

The U.S. diplomat on Thursday recognized Gonzalez as the winner of the electoral contest, based on the “overwhelming evidence” presented by the opposition.

Blinken’s call comes on the same day that Machado’s party, Vente Venezuela, denounced a “robbery” to their headquarters during the early morning hours, with six armed men, who “subdued” the guards and took equipment and documents.

In a column published Thursday in The Wall Street Journal, the opposition leader said she feared for her life: “I could be captured as I write these words,” wrote.
