Water is the drink par excellence present in the daily eating habits of each of us. We know how advantageous it is to take the right amount of liquids to hydrate our body and promote the functionality of our organism.
Among the main benefits we mention: skin hydration, digestionthe regulation of blood pressure and the thermoregulation of our body.
It is a panacea especially for pregnant women and for those who are breastfeeding as it helps in the first case not to burden the kidneys, to improve blood circulation and to prevent contractions from starting too early.
In the second case, therefore breastfeeding, helps for the production of breast milk. Obviously, an important factor must be considered regarding the correct quantity of liquids to consume in order to avoid stomach swelling, kidney problems or other problems, even if they are of little importance.
Drink water, what are the recommended quantities

According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) it is assumed that the ideal is the intake of 10 glasses a day for a total of two liters divided as follows:
two glasses upon waking;
two glasses mid-morning;
one or two glasses at lunch;
two more glasses in the afternoon;
and one or two glasses at dinner or half an hour after this meal.
But distinctions must still be made based on the person, lifestyle and habits as these quantities can vary significantly.
Above all, we must also take into account the liquids consumed through food and which are never taken into account, such as fruit, herbal teas or vegetable broth. So these quantities, as well as other foods, have been redefined to ensure better absorption and good health.
Let’s start with the most delicate categories, namely newborns. Up to six months of life there is no limit as the necessary liquids will be administered through breast milk or formula.
For children aged between 6 months and one year, the ideal would be to remain in the range of 800/1000 ml as from the moment of weaning water will also be added if necessary.
The recommended quantities based on age
Obviously if you were to exceed the indicated dose, at the child’s request, it doesn’t matter. The important thing is that it is never forced. In the age range between 1 and 3 years we are talking about a maximum 1100-1200 ml per day or the equivalent of 6 glasses.
Between approximately 4 and 8 years of age we are approaching 1600 ml per day or 8 glasses. Finally, from the age of 9 onwards you will gradually be able to tolerate the presence of 2 liters of water per day, always considering your body’s tolerance limits.
In fact, it is assumed that women are able to drink slightly less than men. So much so that as adults you should be able to drink around 2 liters per day for women and around 2.5 liters per day for men.
For women, however, the situation changes slightly. As mentioned before, in the case of pregnancy and breastfeeding, the ideal would be to be able to drink at least 300 ml more per day to promote blood circulation for the mother and baby, to improve the quantity of amniotic fluid and to increase the production of breast milk. .
