Sebastian Fundora refuses to re-duel Tim Tszyu: We are not safe in Australia/Daily Mail

Sebastian Fundora refused a re-duel Tim Tszyu because he felt ‘unsafe fighting in Australia. Tim Tszyu’s highly anticipated rematch with Sebastian Fundora remains a possibility later this year – it just won’t take place in Australia.

The development comes after Sebastian Fundora’s camp claimed that Tim Tszyu’s ‘disrespectful attitude’ had cost the ‘Soul Reaper’ a disservice – and that if the two boxers were to fight again, it would be abroad, most likely in Las Vegas. With both fighters still recovering from their 12-round fight two weeks ago, Fundora promoter Sampson Lewkowicz stated that his team ‘would not feel safe’ if the second fight was held underground.

He also sensationally claimed that an unknown person with a distinct ‘Australian accent’ threatened him the night before a match in Sin City last month. A rematch clause, inserted by Tszyu’s promoter No Limit, initially stated that the rematch would take place in Australia – but Lewkowicz anticipates that the fight will again be held at T-Mobile Arena, possibly in November. “We will have a rematch in America,” Lewkowicz told the Raw Sport podcast.

”Australia is not in our plans anymore. I’m too old [73] to be persecuted in my country, in my home. I will not go to his country [Tszyu]I can only imagine how they will treat me ….’I do not accept that insult.”

Lewkowicz also hasn’t forgotten the time he was branded a ‘weasel’ by a feisty Tszyu before last month’s fight – but the veteran promoter still took time to praise the 29-year-old, who is the son of boxing royalty Kostya Tszyu. “I honestly believe that [Terence] “Crawford is getting older and Tszyu can knock him out,” he said.

“It would be a big fight in America and Terence would get a big payday. Tim Tszyu [juga] have nothing to lose from this fight [melawan Fundora].”

”His name is now like gold and he has certification in America. He is very brave. Fundora agreed to a rematch. I will abide by my words. The rematch is on the table, but if Team Tszyu doesn’t want to wait until November or December, we’ll look for someone else.”
