One month before the presidential elections, the president Andrés Manuel López Obradorassured that his government fulfilled the mission of improving the conditions of the working class in the country.

He stressed that the actions to reverse the lags in labor matters and the anti-worker maneuvers of past governments “were not ideas” of a single person or a group of leaders, but were carried out with the support of the working class.

He also thanked the workers’ unions for their support in pushing for improvements in the employment situation of millions of workers.

We have reversed the anti-worker tendencies that characterized the neoliberal and surrenderist regime. Here I open a parenthesis to acknowledge the oil workers, the electrical industry workers who have helped us rescue Pemex and the Federal Electricity Commission. And by doing it together, as I already expressed, we have made history,” he said when leading the ceremony for International Labor Day at the National Palace.

Before more than one hundred representatives of workers’ organizations, López Obrador recalled that during his administration the minimum wage was recovered by one hundred percent; respect freedom of association; increase formal employment and give way to the creation of the Pension Fund for Wellbeing, which “will not have any problem financing.”

For his part, the leader of the Mining Union, Napoleón Gómez Urrutia, highlighted that during the López Obrador government “there has been no persecution directed towards workers or union leaders,” unlike other governments.

Meanwhile, Reyes Soberanis Moreno, president of the Labor Congress, assured that the President is an ally of the workers due to his labor policies; However, he took the opportunity to express a concern regarding security.

On the national stage, we are concerned about the rates of violence and bitterness that divide and hurt our country. From the Labor Congress and union organizations we call for national unity and demand the construction of a country with democracy, freedom, security, respect, diversity, equality and social justice,” he stated.

ADVANCES IN LABOR RIGHTS HIGHLIGHTED

The national president of Morena, Mario Delgado, assured that in the five years of the Transformation government, workers’ rights have been promoted.

Within the framework of the commemoration of Labor Day, The national leader assured that one of the main achievements of the current administration in labor matters was the recovery of the minimum wage.

For 30 years, neoliberal governments deceived us by saying that salaries could not grow more than inflation, a vile lie that generated poverty, generated inequality, a very weak internal market, and increased informality. Now the minimum wage has been recovered by 110% in real terms,” he said.

Delgado recalled that from Congress, Morena and its allies approved fundamental reforms on freedom of association and the elimination of outsourcing.

He considered the employment figures in the country of 22 million jobs in these five years as an achievement of the transformation, despite the crisis that resulted from the covid-19 pandemic.

Just last week, Inegi said that we have 2.3% unemployment; “It is one of the lowest rates in the world,” he assured.
