Tijmen Bus (2m01) will be the third newcomer at Greenyard Maaseik next season. The 17-year-old reception corner player from Wurfeld started his volleyball career at Maaseik and comes from the volleyball school in Vilvoorde.

Focus on young and Belgian talent. That seems to be Greenyard Maaseik’s new transfer policy. After Samuel Fafchamps (23) and Pierre Perin (20), Tijmen Bus is the third reinforcement of the Maaseik professional club. The 17-year-old reception corner player is a true Maaseiken resident. “I started playing volleyball when I was five. At Maaseik of course,” is how Bus introduces himself. “I come from a volleyball family: my father Marcel played at TIS Genk and Munsterbilzen, among others, my mother, Ruth Doumen, also played competitively at Noliko Maaseik for a long time.”

Tijmen Bus went to school at Mosa-RT and attended the Topvolley Academy in Maaseik for two years. He is now the first student to sign an agreement with a professional volleyball club.

Two years ago, Bus went to the volleyball school in Vilvoorde, where he quickly became part of the national youth selections. “I was soon allowed to make my international debut. I scored my first points for the Young Red Dragons against France,” Bus reflects.

Last week he took part in a European Championship qualifying tournament in Austria with the national U20.
