Vikas Bahl talks openly about the failure of Ganpath

Vikas Bahl directed Ganpath releases on the big screen on October 20. The film starred Kriti Sanon and Tiger Shroff in the lead roles and flopped miserably at the box office. Addressing the failure of the film, Bahl revealed in a recent interview that he did not give his all to the film. The filmmaker admitted that while shooting for the Tiger Shroff starrer, he got involved in the making of his next film Shaitan, which diverted his attention from Ganpath.

In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Bahl talked about the poor performance of Ganapath at the box office. The director said that he went to shoot Shaitan in between the shooting of Ganpath. “Satan has taken over my life since last June. I’ve been so focused on the devil that I haven’t been able to sit down and figure out what went wrong with Ganapath,” Bahl said. He also said that Ganapath is a difficult film and he felt it was going out of his control so he tried to focus his attention on his other project Shaitan.

In a previous interview, the Queen hitmaker opened up about having doubts while writing the film and even in the production stage. The director recalled, “Every second of this journey I felt ‘Kyun ye panga le liya (Why did I get into this)’. I thought I could stay in my comfort zone.”
Clarifying his stand, Bahl said that he was nervous while making the film, but it was necessary for a good product. He concluded by saying, “I always want to remain a student. That anxiety is necessary for learning. That learning may be technical or emotional but you have to keep it going. And there comes panic and doubt. In this film, that feeling didn’t go away even for a day.”
Ganapath released on 20 October and failed to perform well at the box office despite being a holiday release. According to Sacknilk, after its first weekend, the film has grossed only ₹7 crore at the domestic box office. At the same time, Shaitan has crossed the Rs 150 crore mark at the domestic box office. Work on the sequel of the film is also going on.
