On average, every pig kept on fully slatted floors is sick or injured. 92% of the pigs on fully slatted floors suffer from painfully inflamed joints, almost half from pneumonia because they have to constantly breathe in the ammonia-contaminated air, and 25% have injured foot pads. It is time for this cruel farming system to be abolished and replaced by a multi-area pen with litter as the new minimum in pig farming.
