Vatican Basilica projects the life of Saint Peter on its façade

It lasts 8 minutes and can be seen every night until October 16.
Today, St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican became an imposing movie screen with the projection on its façade of a video about the life of the martyred apostle to whom the temple is consecrated.

The video «Seguimi. “La vita di Pietro” (Follow me. The life of Peter), created by several institutions of the basilica and the “Fratelli tutti” Foundation, lasts eight minutes and can be seen every night until next October 16.

At its inauguration, this Sunday, several beams of light crossed the Vatican Square to show this production on the historic façade of the main temple of Catholicism, before the eyes of hundreds of faithful and curious people who attended the premiere.

The idea is to delve into the figure of Simon Peter, the first disciple of Jesus of Nazareth, right in the place of his martyrdom, death and burial, since the basilica was built on the Circus of Nero, where he was executed in the 1st century.

To do this, the video includes images of the iconography about the fisherman apostle kept in the Vatican Museums and inside the temple, such as representations by Raphael, Perugino or Guido Reni.

The event featured the voice of tenor Andrea Bocelli, who performed the “Ave Maria” on the steps that precede the basilica and on which a large cross with candles was designed.

This project is part of a pastoral program proposed to the faithful who come on pilgrimage to the Vatican, with other activities such as visits to the “Petrine sites” of the Eternal City or a daily prayer over the tomb of the apostle.

Pope Francis announced these screenings this morning after praying the Angelus and publicly thanked their organizers.
