Uzbekistan celebrates 33rd anniversary of independence with various events

The 33rd anniversary of independence in Uzbekistan is being celebrated with various events.

Celebration events were held all over the country, especially in the capital Tashkent, to mark the 33rd anniversary of independence.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, members of the government, heads of foreign missions and many guests attended the program held in New Uzbekistan Park in Tashkent.

In his speech here, Mirziyoyev congratulated the citizens on Independence Day and stated that the national state was re-established thanks to the gaining of independence.

“Uzbekistan has entered a new historical period. We have gained our place in the world community thanks to independence itself. We cannot be proud enough of this,” said Mirziyoyev, gratefully remembering his patriotic ancestors who fought for the independence of Uzbekistan on such a blessed day.

Mirziyoyev stated that in recent years, they have taken great steps towards building a New Uzbekistan, his country has opened up to the world, the number of friends and partners in the region and the world has increased, the World Bank predicts that Uzbekistan’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will grow by 5.3 percent this year, and the country’s GDP will exceed $100 billion for the first time in 2023.

Expressing that the Uzbekistan team winning 8 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games is of historical importance for them, Mirziyoyev said that this success is an Independence Day gift from Uzbek athletes to the people of the country.

Mirziyoyev stated that the current extremely complicated and dangerous period has brought new tests and problems to them, and said, “No matter how difficult life is, democratic reforms will continue in our country, we will mobilize all our power and possibilities to please our nation and to strengthen peace and stability. From now on, we will attach great importance to equipping our Armed Forces with modern weapons and equipment and increasing their combat potential.”

The program, which included folk dances and shows, ended with a fireworks display.

Meanwhile, with the decree signed by Mirziyoyev, those who made significant contributions to the country’s development were awarded with state awards and medals on the occasion of Independence Day.

A four-day public holiday was declared in the country to celebrate Independence Day.
