USA gave five runs ‘gift’ to India by mistake – 2024-06-13 00:17:39

Inspired by the defeat of Canada and Pakistan, the US also squeezed India. India needed 35 runs from 30 balls at one point on an unintelligible pitch. But the US made that task easier by being punished.

A stop clock has been introduced to increase the pace of play in T20 Internationals. And because of that rule, the United States, the surprise team of this World Cup, was punished for the first time. India took advantage of their opponents’ violation of rules just as they were chasing a 111-run target in New York.

India needed 35 runs in the last five overs. But USA was penalized for taking more than 60 seconds three times to start a new over after one over in the innings. Five runs added to India’s scoreboard, reducing the need to 30 runs from 30 balls. There was no turning back. They won by 7 wickets with 10 balls to spare.

The stop clock has been introduced in men’s ODIs and T20s since June 1. This rule was introduced to speed up the over rate. This rule says, ‘The clock will help control that the bowling team cannot waste time between overs. If the bowling team fails to start the next over within 60 seconds after the completion of the previous over and if this happens for the third time, they will be penalized by five runs added to the opponent’s score.’

U.S. acting captain Aaron Jones was explained by the umpires on the field after the penalty at the start of the 16th over.
