Three refineries in Russia’s Samara region were attacked by drones of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), law enforcement sources confirmed to Ukrinform.
The sources confirm that the night attack on the Russian oil refineries was successful.
SBU combat drones targeted three more Rosneft refineries in the Samara Region.
These are the installations in Novokuibyshevsk, Kuibyshev and Sizran.
In total, these refineries process about 25 million tons of oil per year, which is almost 10% of the total oil processing in Russia, Ukrinform points out.
“The SBU continues to implement its strategy of undermining Russia’s economic potential, allowing it to wage war in Ukraine. Cotton season [експлозиите] in Russian refineries is in full swing. Any such strike reduces the flow of petrodollars that fuel Russia’s military economy.” says the source.
The Interfax news agency quoted the Ministry of Emergencies as saying that the “open fire” at the Sizran refinery had been extinguished, but measures to fully extinguish the flames continued.
It is unclear how the fire will affect production at the refinery, which has the capacity to process 8.5 million metric tons of crude oil a year, according to Reuters.
As reported by Ukrinform, on the night of March 15, three drones attacked an oil refinery in Russia’s Kaluga region.
According to the source of the military intelligence agency of Ukraine, on the night of March 15, the Perviy Zavod oil refinery in Russia’s Kaluga region was attacked by drones of the military intelligence of Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused Ukraine of attempting to sabotage the current presidential election, which will almost certainly be won by the current head of state, Reuters reports, quoted by BTA.
In recent weeks, Ukraine has targeted Russian oil infrastructure in earnest, striking refineries across the European part of Russia. The governor of the border region of Belgorod, which has been the target of near-constant Ukrainian attacks in recent months, said five people, including a child, were injured when a drone struck a vehicle traveling near the Ukrainian border.
Russian air defense forces have destroyed two Ukrainian drones in the sky over the Belgorod region, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced, as quoted by TASS.
