The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Oleksandr Syrsky announced the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Avdiyevka.
Publika.az reports that he explained his decision with the plan to transfer the units to the defense “based on the operational situation around the city”.
The military commander added that the units left Avdiyevka to avoid encirclement and to protect the lives and health of fighters. According to him, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have strengthened in more favorable positions.
“We are taking measures to stabilize the situation and protect our positions. “We will return Avdiyevka anyway,” Syrski said.
Alexander Tarnavskyi, commander of the “Tavriya” operational-strategic troop group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine clarified the reasons for the decision to surrender Avdeyevka. The general called the withdrawal the only correct decision, given the continuous bombing of the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“Another reason given was the lack of shells, ten Russian shells fall for every Ukrainian shell. Encirclement was not allowed, personnel were withdrawn, our soldiers took defensive positions on certain lines,” he concluded.
