Singer and actor Truong The Vinh is about to return to cinema with the movie Murder on the 4th Floor (Directed by Nguyen Huu Tuan) plays singer Luong Bich Huu. On this occasion, he opened up to VietNamNet Newspaper about work and life during the recent quiet time.
I am nothing in cinema
– Appearing in front of reporters with a shaggy beard, gray hair and a somewhat disfigured appearance, is this the look you serve for the new film?
If we had met before, I would have been even more upset. My body is retaining water due to eating salty foods and drinking a lot, but it’s nothing serious.
I’m losing weight to compete in “Brother Over Thousands of Thorns”. Eat chicken breast, sweet potatoes and broccoli every day, combined with gym and jogging. In addition, I quit drinking and live a healthy life again. I once lost 5kg in 10 days, so this time it will probably take about a week to get back in shape.
I look like that now, if you were to appear on television you would never see any gray hair or water on your face.
I am the type of artist who tends to express things naturally, even a bit excessively. Reporters know how old the artist is. I don’t try to be young because I’m old, no matter how hard I try, I’m not as good as a real young person.
Recently, I have focused most of my time on the “Brother Overcoming Thousands of Thorns” competition. When I was young, I used to dance fiercely, but now that I practice again, I find that my body doesn’t listen to me anymore. I looked at myself in the mirror and felt very strange, my movements were clumsy and foolish.

– Famous thanks to TV game shows, how much did your salary increase when you acted in movies?
Until you prove yourself in the film industry, no matter where you are a star, it means nothing. Regarding salary, I can only take what I should get.
I am no one in cinema. The proof is that I don’t have many invitations or works. People often say ‘Truong The Vinh returns to cinema’ but where can I be chosen? Obviously they gave me a chance to come back.

In the previous period, thanks to studying screenwriting, I learned many more things about acting. I understand the character deeper, read the script better and know what points to focus on in each scene.
– Who do you often consult about acting?
I only work with the director because of the awareness that the actor must do whatever the director asks within his or her scope. There are details in the film that are overlooked by the audience, but at least you have shown respect for the creator of the work. Besides acting, I also cherish the dream of going behind the screen to make my own movies, but now is not the time.
The scandal cannot define me
– Normally moderate and polite, why were you criticized for making rude jokes with Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc on television not long ago?
I don’t use the reason we are close as an excuse. The way artists perform on game shows is sometimes right, sometimes wrong, and is not always perfect and standard.
In order for an image to be broadcast on television, it must have gone through many stages from editing to approval. Even though I approved a joke like that, I still find it strange to hear it again. If everyone jokes like that, it’s okay, but ‘suddenly’ I’m the only one joking like that, it’s really not okay.
