Landslides have filled the railway tunnel in Bai Gio area (Van Ninh district, Khanh Hoa province), so the railway industry had to mobilize cars to transport more than 3,000 passengers back and forth to the Khanh Hoa – Phu Yen area.

On the afternoon of April 13, the leader of Phu Khanh Railway Exploitation Branch said: Currently, this unit has mobilized about 200 workers and many vehicles to clear the railway tunnel in Bai Gio area, located in Dai Lanh commune, Van Ninh district, Khanh Hoa province. Trains cannot move through this area, so the unit has to use cars to transport passengers from Tuy Hoa station (Phu Yen) to Van Gia station (Khanh Hoa).

Previously, on the afternoon of April 12, many blocks of rock and soil at the ceiling of the Deo Ca railway tunnel under renovation suffered prolonged landslides. Soil and rocks spilled onto the tracks, causing the North-South railway line through Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen provinces to be cut off. Phu Khanh Railway Exploitation Branch has mobilized a lot of manpower to overcome the landslide site and clean up soil and rocks.

But around 4:00 a.m. on April 13, the rock and soil on the ceiling of Bai Gio tunnel continued to fall, and the iron trusses and reinforcement areas collapsed. The ceiling next to it continues to have more cracks, and there is a risk that rocks and soil will fall down. Therefore, the construction unit is actively handling the tunnel so the tunnel clearance for ships to pass through will have to wait.

The above railway tunnel collapse made it impossible to move passenger trains through the Bai Gio area, so the railway industry had to use cars to take passengers past the landslide point. On the night of April 12, the railway industry used cars to transfer more than 1,700 passengers between Tuy Hoa and Van Gia stations.

According to statistics as of the morning of April 13, 12 passenger trains on the North – South railway had to transport more than 3,000 passengers by car due to the Bai Gio tunnel landslide. In addition, the railway industry also organized free meals for hundreds of passengers and sent staff to assist passengers in carrying luggage onto transit buses.

Road Management Office III.3 (under the Ministry of Transport and Communications) said that the landslide location in the Bai Gio railway tunnel is under the lane of National Highway 1A. Immediately after receiving the information, the unit sent officers to the scene to coordinate with the traffic police of Khanh Hoa – Phu Yen provinces to regulate and limit vehicles passing through landslide areas to avoid causing downward pressure. The iron tunnel area encountered problems.
