- Hyundai has ordered a recall for a model that has not been produced for many years.
- A component in the ignition switch of Genesis Coupes between 2010 and 2013 may break, causing the car to start even if the clutch is not pressed.
- Roughly 12,612 cars may be affected by the recall, the authorities are notified by the Korean brand.
- By the way, the Genesis Coupe is a very exciting car, its 3.8-liter V6 engine could have had 353 horsepower.
- He pushed this power through a manual transmission to a sperr diff and then to the rear wheels.
It is not common, but it happens that a manufacturer orders a recall for a defective part even more than 10 years after the appearance of the given car. This is a sympathetic step in terms of social responsibility, and the brand only strengthens its prestige. Hyundai recently did the same, ordering a recall for Genesis Coupés produced between 2010 and 2013.
In other words, not for all manufactured pieces, but for 12,612 copies, in which a faulty ignition switch can cause problems. These cars have a safety system that does not allow starting until the user presses the clutch. Over time, the switch responsible for this may break and not prevent starting when the pedal is not pressed.

If you get used to leaving your car in gear to start it, this can also cause problems. Because the car has quite large and powerful engines, they easily jerk the barrel when starting, which can cause an accident. According to reports, such a case did happen, so Hyundai began investigating the matter in mid-2023. They just got there to find the faulty part and order a recall. Those affected will be notified to take their cars to a dealer, where the ignition switches will be replaced free of charge.
The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is an exciting car. The nice coupe shape is one thing, but it inherited almost only the name and the roof line from its predecessors, but not the powertrain. This is already a regular long-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car with a 3.8 liter V6 engine. Depending on the market, its output was between 306 and 316 horsepower, while this included 361 Nm of torque. There was also an automatic, but the six-speed manual transmission, from which the drive reached the rear wheels via a sperr diff, could have been more exciting. Later, the car was updated and the engine was increased to 353 hp with 400 Nm of torque, so it ran 0-100 in 6.1 seconds with a manual transmission and 5.9 seconds with an automatic transmission.
Although not very common, this is not the first time that defective cars have been recalled after all these years. Magyar Suzuki Zrt., for example, recalled the original Hungarian Swift once after ten years. In some types, rust may have appeared on the front stilts at a point that could have led to breakage later. The company replaced them free of charge.
