A person named Anwar Hossain has been accused of beating up a teenage domestic worker named Nazira with a hot knife on the charge of stealing gold. Currently, he is writhing in pain in the burn unit of Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Anwar Hossain is said to be working as a senior assistant at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital. The victim, Nazira Gaibandhar, is the daughter of visually impaired couple Isha Kha and Josna Begum, residents of Purba Balayapara of Phulchhari Upazila.
The victim complained that two days after Eid, various parts of his body were burnt as he wanted to eat rice. During this time, if you ask for a glass of water due to unbearable pain, you will be hit with a hot knife on your chest. Anwar and his wife tortured brutally by tying their faces with cloth.
Nazira’s grandfather brought her from there to Gaibandha when she fell seriously ill after the incident. After that he was first admitted to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital and later to the burn unit of Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

His neck, back, and other parts of his body have been stabbed with hot sticks. Due to no proper treatment so far, infection has occurred in those places. We are trying our best. On Friday (April 19), the victim Najira, lying in the hospital bed, said that the wife of the householder, Anwar, used to beat her on various pretexts since she joined work. Anwar Hossain and his wife suddenly became excited after asking for food after two days of Eid work. At one stage, they beat him severely and cut different parts of his body with hot sticks, accusing him of stealing gold. On hearing the news, his grandfather brought him to Gaibandha’s house from Dhaka on April 13 in critical condition.
Nazira’s mother Josna Begum said that Nazira was admitted to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital when she felt very ill the day after she was brought from Dhaka. On April 17, they admitted him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital when he was asked for better treatment with a discharge from that hospital.
Stating that the girl’s condition is not good at present, he said that Nazira was sent to Dhaka through a young man named Plaban during the month of Ramadan due to family financial problems. Plaban hired her as a maid in the house of Anwar Hossain, a high-ranking assistant at the airport. Anwar Hossain’s wife used to torture Nazira since joining the work. After the last Eid, Nazia’s mother complained that she was stabbed in different parts of her body with a hot knife, accusing her of stealing gold.
When trying to contact Anwar Hossain, who works as a high-ranking assistant at Hazrat Shahjalal Airport, to inquire about the complaint, the number was found to be closed.
Later, when the young Plaban who took the girl to Dhaka was contacted, he said, ‘I work as an office peon at the airport. On the request of Anwar Sir, I took my relative Nazira to Dhaka as a domestic worker for her housework. Anwar sir has not allowed me to contact him since Nazira joined the work. He didn’t care if I asked for any information.’
He also said, ‘Suddenly after Eid, Anwar sir called me and told me that he is in Comilla with Nazira. Nazira’s physical condition is bad there. He got angry with me when I asked what happened. Later, after finding out about the incident, I sent Nazira’s grandfather to Dhaka. Anwar Sir took Nazira in a microbus and handed her over to her grandfather. Anwar Sir’s phone number has been switched off since then. I heard that the Nazis were once caught stealing 5000 after a few days of joining the work. After that incident, Anwar used to torture Sir’s wife Nazira a lot.
Plaban said, I am shocked to see Nazira. I was with him during his admission to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital and Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Trying to get treatment as per my ability. I thought Anwar sir was a good person but he cheated me.
