The presidential press service explained that the facility, built in 1973, serves to regulate the flow of the Yesil River. It provides the specified filling and startup mode for the Sergeevsky and Petropavlovsky reservoirs.
As akim Gauez Nurmukhambetov reported, floods in the region were caused by the melt runoff of the Yesil River and the arrival of water from the Akmola region. A special feature of the flood was the formation of ice jams, which caused a sharp increase in water levels. This led to the destruction of infrastructure and flooding of settlements in the floodplain of the Yesil River.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was informed about a mobile control point with the task of monitoring the situation in real time. For this purpose, a reconnaissance UAV is used, capable of providing information on a map of the area in 2D format every two and a half hours, as well as a drone with a built-in thermal imaging camera, which allows round-the-clock flight and monitoring of changes in the flood situation, the press service of the head of state said. .
The Sergeevskoye Reservoir underwent a multi-factor inspection in 2022, its technical condition was found to be satisfactory. Today, both reservoirs in the region are operating according to the staffing schedule.
It was previously announced that after a one-day visit to Yerevan, the president would visit one of the regions of Kazakhstan located in the flood zone. Today it became known that the head of state flew to North Kazakhstan. It flew around the Kyzylzharsky district, the outskirts of Petropavlovsk and the Sergeevskoye reservoir. Afterwards, the president met with the evacuated residents and promised that the state would compensate for all the expenses they incurred.
