Up to 100 mice are killed for a single production unit of Botox. In total, around 400,000 animals in the EU die every year because of Botox.

Vienna (OTS) The demand for Botox products (actually botulinum toxin) in beauty cosmetics is increasing. Because of the toxicity of Botox, each production unit must be tested individually. Countless animals still die cruelly for this, even though there are already approved alternative methods.

In order to end the suffering of countless laboratory animals, Tierschutz Austria is now demanding in a petition that only Botox products that have been proven to have been produced without animal suffering should come onto the market in Austria.

Because of its toxicity and because production can lead to fluctuations in toxicity, each production unit of Botox is tested individually for safety! “Up to 100 mice are killed for a single production unit of Botox. In total, around 400,000 animals in the EU die every year because of Botox,” says Tierschutz Austria President MMag.a Dr. Madeleine Petrovic. “Hardly anyone is aware of the immense animal suffering behind the supposed cosmetic product,” informs Petrovic and is certain: “True beauty doesn’t need poison, just authentic charisma.”

The use of animal testing for ingredients and end products in cosmetics has actually been banned since 2012. Nevertheless, animals continue to be killed for cosmetic products. Cruel tests for Botox are just one example.
