The UK Health Safety Agency (UKHSA) reported that the A(H1N2)v influenza virus detected in pigs in the country has been seen in a human for the first time.

Publika.az reports that UKHSA made a statement in this regard.

It was reported that the A(H1N2)v virus was detected in a person with respiratory symptoms during a routine national flu examination carried out together with family doctors.

The statement went on to say that UKHSA had carried out a PCR test on the patient and that he had recovered. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the infection. According to the first information available, the A(H1N2)v seen in the UK is different from other A(H1N2)vs around the world.

UKHSA official Meera Chand added that the virus has been seen in humans for the first time in the UK:

“We are working rapidly to trace close contacts and reduce possible spread. In accordance with established protocols, investigations are ongoing to find out how the virus was spread. It takes time to assess whether the person has an infection or other related conditions.”
