Yerevan’s foreign policy turn and disruption of relations with Moscow will lead to the most serious problems for Armenia, especially in the fields of economy and security.
Publika.az reports that this was said by Aregnaz Manukyan, a member of the opposition “Armenia” faction of the Armenian Parliament.
“I am strongly against changing the direction of Armenia’s foreign policy. Armenia should not become a trading object in geopolitical games. As for the intentions of the current government, I have repeatedly stated that the course of breaking relations with Russia is unacceptable. Strategic ally Russia will harm Armenia first of all politically and economically,” Manukyan told RIA Novosti.
“If we add security issues to this, then we can say unequivocally that if there is such a turn, our country will face very serious problems in several directions at the same time,” he stressed.
Earlier, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said that Yerevan considers the USA and Europe as its main partners, but this does not mean a change in foreign policy. He added that Armenia does not intend to join NATO, the country already has cooperation with the organization.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview to “Izvestia” on March 28 that the leadership of Armenia deliberately leads to the disruption of relations with the Russian Federation using short-sighted excuses.
