The National Cultural Heritage Service (Serpat), dependent on the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, presented a virtual tour of the Chinchorro World Heritage.

This transports visitors to the region of Arica and Parinacota, to visit the coast of the driest desert in the world and learn about the settlements and artificial mummification of the Chinchorro Culture, recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage in 2021.

Through the platform, users will be able to explore the slopes of Morro de Arica, the Colón 10 Site Museum and the Mouth of the Camarones River. Immersing yourself in this tour is like traveling 7,000 years back in time, to meet an ancient society that developed artificial mummification techniques unique in the world, even prior to the Egyptian ones.

Likewise, they will have the opportunity to enter the archaeological sites located along the coastline and at the mouths of the valleys. In addition, you will be able to appreciate through the museum collections one of the most enigmatic cultures of our past, whose vestiges are a unique testimony of its complex spirituality.

Recoleta Dominica Heritage Library

Along with this, SERPAT presented a sound tour of the Recoleta Dominica Heritage Library, a cultural treasure that can now be explored through an audio guide available in Spanish, English, Portuguese and French.

This sound tour tells the history of the library since its foundation in 1753, highlighting the importance of the building that houses it and the richness of its collections, which include thirty-three thousand bibliographical items, as well as display cases, stairs, infographics about the Dominicans and the collection, paintings and furniture.

The director of the National Cultural Heritage Service, Nélida Pozo Kudo, highlighted the importance of making these tours available to the community and expanding the borders of access to these cultural spaces.

“We are motivated to open the doors of these spaces to a broader public, to allow people from any corner of Chile and the world to access the valuable heritage that our country has. “This initiative also reflects a commitment to inclusion and the innovative use of technology to democratize access to cultural heritage and knowledge,” he added.

Both tours add to the wide range of Virtual Heritage, which already has more than 26 heritage spaces available for free on its website. This platform provides the possibility of exploring and enjoying the richness and cultural diversity of the territory, whether from a computer, cell phone, tablet or using virtual reality glasses.
