MEXICO CITY (apro).- Less than 24 hours after the leader of the Madres Buscadoras de Sonora collective, Cecilia Flores, reported the discovery of an alleged clandestine crematorium in the east of Mexico City, the local Attorney General’s Office (FGJCDMX) determined that the 14 bones found at the site are from dogs, not people, and stated “categorically that it is neither a crematorium nor a clandestine grave.”

In the second video message of the day, in which questions from the press were also not allowed, the office manager of the local Prosecutor’s Office, Ulises Lara, reported the result of the analysis of the evidence collected at the site:

“With all the protocols applicable in this type of case, in accordance with the results of the anthropological opinions carried out scientifically, it was determined that the 14 bone elements found in the indicated place are of animal origin, particularly of the canine species, and none of “They correspond to no person.”

In addition, he said that the analysis of various ash samples showed that “they correspond to animal remains and various materials, such as plastics, tires and garbage, to name a few. It is necessary to highlight that they do not correspond to human remains either.”

The official added that, as part of the action protocol, personnel from the Investigative Police (PDI), the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) and the National Guard (GN) , they keep an area of approximately five hectares under guard “which was duly inspected.”

He also specified that according to the aerial inspection carried out in the area in the vicinity of the Xaltepec Volcano, between the municipalities of Tláhuac and Iztapalapa, “it can be established that the site is located near the town or colony, it is easily accessible, which translates into “That is not an area that can be used to cremate bodies, without anyone noticing.”

He added that “the smoke and smell being an open area could put the population on alert. Likewise, the fire does not remain at the same temperature for the time required to cremate a body and must reach 760 to 1,150 degrees Celsius.”

The person in charge of the Prosecutor’s Office, Ulises Lara, added: “it is regrettable that political actors use the pain of those looking for their relatives to take advantage of this situation. It is outrageous that the search for people that involves the feelings of affected families is used for political gain.”

Three previous reviews: SSC

In the same message, the secretary of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) clarified that personnel from the agency, in support of the CDMX Search Commission and the local FGJ, had already carried out search work “on at least three occasions without find no human remains.”

These moments are explained below, according to the SSC:

  • November 7, 2022. Review of three hectares of wild area, three searches with a canine pair, perimeter security was provided to those attending the search without finding human remains.
  • December 28, 2022. Carrying out search wells, a search with geo-radar, with negative results.
