Doctor and TV presenter Alexander Myasnikov called the benefits of dietary supplements for the body a very controversial topic.

Publika.az reports that Myasnikov said this in an interview with “Общественная служба новостей” publication. The doctor said that dietary supplements are not intended to diagnose, prevent or treat any disease. According to him, this is done on purpose so that consumers do not complain about the product.

“Does this mean that dietary supplements are completely pointless? When we talk about some serious diseases, when we do clinical trials, then we don’t see much difference. This is higher in the group taking certain vitamins. On the other hand, we know that, for example, 40% of people in Germany take food supplements and herbal preparations,” the doctor noted.

He also added that dietary supplements are “an attempt to replace proper nutrition” because supplements already contain concentrated elements that should be present in a proper diet.

“It is important that your doctor knows exactly what you are taking. I know from experience, people come and say that they do not throw anything, you give medicine. And many dietary supplements break down along the same enzyme chain and may interact with medications you take. “They are for lazy people who say, ‘I just want to be healthy, but I don’t want to eat vegetables and oatmeal,'” the doctor concluded.

Note that food supplements contain active substances in doses called “food”, that is, things that we can get with food: vitamins, minerals, trace elements, omega-3 or 6 fats, probiotics (lactic enzymes), plants, algae. Their form of release (in tablets, capsules, ampoules) is similar to medicine, but they are sold without a prescription.
