“Alcohol destroys neurons. And, as already proven, even though nerve cells are restored, if you drink a lot, the cognitive functions of a person decrease. Therefore, excessive alcohol is extremely harmful to brain activity,” Tikhomirova said.

In addition, consumption of processed vegetable oil, also known as hydrogenated oil, has a negative effect on brain function. A classic example of such a product is margarine.

“When a person consumes a large amount of hydrogenated fat, it is not processed by the body and stored in cells, including brain cells. Accordingly, this leads to its premature destruction and reduced cognitive function,” said the nutritionist.

The doctor also noted the negative effect of large amounts of fast food on brain activity.

“Such products also contain a large amount of fat, carbohydrates, salt and various food additives. All this has an extremely negative effect on brain activity. A classic example is snacks, chips, hamburgers, shawarma, etc. If you drink them with sweet drinks, this it contributes to the development of obesity, its presence leads to a decrease in brain activity,” the expert explained.

According to him, eating sugar damages the brain. The doctor noted that glucose is a necessary fuel for the whole body. And carbohydrates should be in the diet. But if you periodically reduce their number and allow moderate episodes of hunger, this has a positive effect on brain activity.
