JAKARTA – Tigers, tigers and lions are three types of big cats belonging to the genus Panthera. While they have some similarities, they also have some significant differences.
1. Physical differences
a. Size: Tigers are the largest of the three, weighing up to 300 kg. Tigers are smaller than tigers, weighing up to 100 kg. Lions vary in size, with males being larger than females. Males can reach a weight of 250 kg, while females are around 150 kg.
b. Color: Tigers have an orange color with black stripes. Tigers have various colors, such as black, brown, and gray, with black spots. Lions have a yellowish brown color with mane hair on males.
2. Habitat
Tigers live in the forests of Asia. Tigers live in the forests and grasslands of Asia. Lions live in the savannas of Africa and Asia.
3. Differences in behavior
a. Hunting habits: Tigers and leopards are solitary hunters, while lions hunt in groups called prides. b. Prey: Tigers and tigers hunt large prey, such as deer and wild boar. Lions hunt smaller prey, such as zebras and reindeer. c. Social: Lions are more social animals than tigers and leopards. They live in groups consisting of several females and their young.
Conservation status: Tigers and leopards are endangered, while lions are classified as vulnerable. Role in culture: Tigers and leopards are often depicted in Asian cultures, while lions are often depicted in African and European cultures.
