Houthi rebels fired missiles at a cargo ship off the coast of Yemen, as a result of which 3 crew members were killed and 4 were injured. This is the first time when there are casualties as a result of Houthi attacks on commercial ships.
The Central Command of the US Armed Forces wrote in a message published on March 7 that the Houthis attacked the ship “True Confidence” sailing under the flag of Barbados with anti-ship missiles.
“On March 6, at approximately 11:30 a.m. (Sana’a time), an anti-ship ballistic missile was fired from areas of Yemen controlled by Iran-backed Houthi terrorists at the dry cargo ship True Confidence, which was sailing in the Gulf of Aden under the flag of Barbados and owned by to Liberia. The missile hit the ship. the multinational crew reports three dead and at least four injured, three of whom are in critical condition. The ship was significantly damaged,” the Central Command wrote on the X social network.
The US military added that the crew abandoned the ship and coalition warships returned fire. According to the report, in the last two days, the Houthis have already fired 5 anti-ship missiles at commercial ships.
The Houthis, in turn, issued a statement stating that the crew of “True Confidence” ignored their warnings.
The BBC reported that the ship had a crew of 20, including Vietnamese, Filipinos and one Indian, as well as three armed guards from Sri Lanka and Nepal.
After the attack, the Al Masirah television station of the Houthis announced that two airstrikes led by the United States were carried out on the international airport of the port city of Hodeidah, controlled by the Houthis.
During the war between Israel and the Palestinian radical group Hamas, the Houthis began attacking ships passing through the Red Sea and the Sea of Aden, saying the attacks would stop when Israel stopped military operations in the Gaza Strip.
