The weather had a negative impact on the “Tour de ski”, the last stages were even “redundant” – Winter sports – Sportacentrs.com

All the skiers of the last two starts of the classics – the pursuit in Davos and the 15 km mass start in Valdifiemmi – gave a lot of strength, struggling not with their opponents, but rather with very difficult track conditions, but in the end these two Departures actually have no effect on the overall ranking, leaving very few changes (with rare exceptions). It is true that such a situation has helped our great Patricija Eidukas a lot, who can therefore still realistically claim a place in the top ten.

In the last two starts the scenario was completely the same: skiers ride at a calm pace the entire distance and only at the end increase speed and slow down slightly upon arrival. Ski fans in many parts of the world were waiting for an exciting race, especially in the chase in Davos, following the events on the track, increasing or decreasing the lead. But nothing came of it. And this time the fault is not at all the skiers, because in such natural conditions and the conditions of the slope they could not have behaved differently.

They had already reported on the statements of the Norwegian experts. Norwegian skier Martins Lövström Niengets expressed his assessment today. “It’s a shame that this competition turned out like this. I was looking forward to the pursuit and the mass start of 15 km. It must be said that there is nothing pleasant about it. This competition is boring. All distances are slow and at the end you run with a sprint,” says Niengets, who took 10th place today.

The events surrounding the Davos pursuit have already been described previously. Patricia Eidukas had said that in Valdifiemmi it will certainly be different, that the weather will be better and that the leaders will create an escape. But nothing like that happened, because it really couldn’t happen, because the conditions were similar to Davos. Of course, it wasn’t snowing that much, but there was a lot of it on the spurs, so the leaders “worked” again as “snowplows” and didn’t see the point in going fast, because then the others would easily catch up with the leaders, slowed down by the snow . This is why we often saw a sharp drop in speed of those in front after descents, crushing in the group and desperate braking.

The pursuit of Davos made vain the efforts that began successfully in the second sprint of the Tour in the semi-final and final, but now, after two stages in the classics in difficult conditions, the situation in the general classification is similar to that after the third stage i.e. freestyle pursuit in Dobbiaco. Just a few changes. True, German Carla’s deficit increased by another 40 seconds due to her fall in Davos. Diggins, as after the third stage in Dobbiaco, is still a convincing leader, more than 40 seconds ahead of many of her closest pursuers.
