The US is moving fighter jets and drones to Qatar after the United Arab Emirates revoked permission for US drones to strike targets in Yemen and Iraq from its territory. The Wall Street Journal wrote about this, citing American officials.

“In February, the UAE notified the US that it will no longer allow US warplanes and drones based at Abu Dhabi’s Ad Dhafra air base to carry out strikes on Yemen and Iraq. This prompted the US command to send additional aircraft to the airbase,” the publication writes.

It is said that such a decision was taken due to fears that Iranian-backed groups may target the UAE to aid Washington’s military operations.

A UAE official confirmed to the publication that the restrictions on combat flights were adopted based on the issue of “self-defense”.

In addition, the publication, citing an informed source, reports that in recent days the US and Qatar have agreed to transfer fighter jets, reconnaissance planes and drones to the “Al Udeid” airbase.

As the Wall Street Journal writes, citing American officials, the United States is also considering the possibility of striking targets in the Middle East from Djibouti in eastern Africa.
